Support Sy's Journey to Recovery
|
After suffering a massive stroke in March 2024, Sy Hart has lost much of the feeling and freedom of movement on the left side of his body. With your help, we can get him the medical care he needs to regain his mobility and reclaim his quality of life.
The Montclair Rugby Club, along with a few generous friends, has already stepped up—but Sy needs more help to continue his recovery. All donations will go directly to Sy's medical expenses and to improve his quality of life while he works every day to get better. Montclair Rugby Club is a registered 501(c)(3) so donations are eligible for corporate match. Have a Heart for Hart! And Thank You for your time! |
More Than a Game: Sy Hart's FightSy "The Try" Hart has been a part of the New Jersey rugby community for a decade. An avid sports fan, Sy first discovered rugby during his senior year of high school — through rugby video games. He remained a fan until 2015, when he joined Montclair Rugby Club. Sy immediately loved the culture, the community, and the chance to play alongside his old friend Savion Wright.
"I never fell in love with a sport like I have with rugby... I don't know where I would be without my love for the game and the support of the coaches." For Sy, rugby has always been more than just a game. In tough times, he could always count on the sport and his teammates to lift his spirits. It's that bond that shaped him into a great player and a resilient man. Even while battling cancer seven years ago, Sy continued to play. Now, he faces his greatest challenge yet: after a sudden and catastrophic brain bleed, Sy has lost much of the feeling in the left half of his body. |

Stand with SyLast year, during the first game of our spring season, Sy suffered a sudden and catastrophic brain bleed after warming up. He was rushed to Mountainside Hospital, where surgeons narrowly saved his life. But while they were able to stabilize him, Sy has lost much of the feeling in the left half of his body.
For over a year, Sy has lived in a rehabilitation center, fighting to regain the strength, mobility, and independence his stroke took from him. The outlook was grim, especially with financial hardships limiting his access to proper therapy. Still, Sy persisted. With the limited physical therapy the club could secure and his own hard work, he took his first steps — something thought impossible months ago. With determination and a little support, Sy has come a long way—defying the odds with incredible grit and perseverance. But his journey isn’t over yet. Sy still needs your help. Without access to proper medical care and consistent physical therapy, a full recovery remains out of reach. Your donation can make a real difference in helping Sy reclaim his quality of life. Please, give today and stand with Sy as he continues to fight. |
